Dunfermline: Studio-X celebrates victory with TikTok rubber band craze

BUNGEE and trapeze classes propelled a Dunfermline fitness studio to win a prestigious trophy.

Studio-X, on Canmore Street, has won the title of Innovation at the Scottish Health & Fitness Awards 2022 for its work to bring West Fifers the latest health crazes.

Owner Lisa Gibson, 39, told reporters: “We’re trying to think outside the box, we’ve done really well, then we’ve been closed or restricted for a year – we’re just getting back on our feet.

“We were delighted to win and we were so surprised that we were playing all over Scotland, including some very big and established gyms.

“Being recognized and winning among these nominees is really something great!”

After opening three years ago, Lisa, alongside fellow trainers Bethany Ferguson and Jen Turner, has worked hard to bring options “that don’t even look like exercise” to the city.

This includes ‘Bungeefit’, the idea of which was sparked by a TikTok video which saw Studio-X become the first gym in Scotland to offer the classes.

“You’re hooked up to a bungee cord and doing high-impact exercises like push-ups, burpees, or squats,” Lisa explained.

“You fly around the room, you defy gravity.

“It’s very popular, we’re quite innovative, we also have birthday parties that we can tailor to the individual.”

Prior to opening, Lisa worked as a physical education teacher for 16 years, while running her own “sideline” dance school.

“I started doing zumba and other crazy stuff,” she added.

“I like to do unique and different things, I try to do things that no one has done before.”
