Abbey Road Studios store unveiled
Stocking a large collection of musical memorabilia, from T-shirts and vinyl records to housewares and more, Abbey Road Studios Store is a brand new retail experience designed for music lovers. The new store – which opened just in time for Christmas – offers a range of exclusive products and gifts, which continue the legacy of the iconic music studio.
The meticulously designed basement store has a spacious and bright layout, imaginative displays – including a display of bass guitars once owned by Paul McCartney – as well as a range of interactive elements. All work on the project was expertly designed, created and installed to reflect the legendary status of the Abbey Road name and the result speaks for itself.
Lumsden is a leading design practice with an excellent reputation for delivering visionary, compelling and achievable environments in the retail, commercial and cultural industries. As a seasoned firm, with an impressive portfolio including the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Natural History Museum, Lumsden was the perfect choice to undertake a project as prestigious as the Abbey Road Studio stores.
In collaboration with Lumsden, Creation Shopfitters LLP was appointed as the fit-out contractor on the project. Creation Shopfitters LLP has a long-standing working relationship with Lumsden, which ensured a successful program that more than met customer expectations.
Creation Shopfitters LLP was responsible for the installation of the store’s merchandise system, display kits, intermediate counters, wall units, special electronic table and signage, and associated work. Work began on the project in mid-October, spanning three weeks.
Speaking to Premier Retail, Creation Shopfitters LLP Senior Director of Contracts, John McNamara, said:
“We have worked with Lumsden on a number of high profile projects in the past including Warners Bros among others, so we were delighted to get involved in this project. Abbey Road Studios is so iconic that we were just thrilled to be involved with the studio store.
Highlights of the store include the cash ‘n’ wrap counter which features some 1,200 LP covers integrated into the counter and the Sonus Zone, a dedicated interactive area that includes facilities that produce sound at the push of a button. Additional displays have been incorporated into the store to bring the feel of Abbey Road Studios directly into the store, including elements inspired by the iconic Studio 2.
Jean said:
“The display kit was designed by Lumsden and built by us to reflect elements of Studio 2. There are a number of elements in this display that are taken straight from the studio, such as the mesh panels that replicate the acoustic panels seen in the studio. “
With a project of this nature, the vast majority of displays are bespoke, ensuring that the store provides music fans with a unique retail experience not found anywhere else. This attention to detail runs through every aspect of the store and the result is a one-of-a-kind store with a real sense of history.

“From a personal point of view I am a huge music fan so the opportunity to work with Abbey Road was just fantastic. This was a unique opportunity and we are delighted to participate in this project.
Abbey Road Studios Store is open seven days a week, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
