Panorama – The famous Abbey Road studios in the UK are now powered by wind and solar energy
Ecotricity will supply green electricity to four of Universal Music UK’s key sites in London, including its Kensington High Street headquarters and Abbey Road Studios, the oldest purpose-built recording studio in the world.
Abbey Road Studios was established in 1931 by the Gramophone Company, a predecessor of EMI, who owned it until Universal Music took over part of EMI in 2012. The building is best known for being the location for years 1960 for groups such as the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the Hollies, Badfinger and many more.
Universal Music UK recently achieved three-star certification under the Industry Green sustainability label, awarded to creative organizations with a systematic, achievable and inspiring approach to environmental sustainability.
“Powering a business with green energy is the single biggest step a business can take to reduce the emissions that cause air pollution and climate change,” said Dale Vince, Founder of Ecotricity. “By simply switching to green power, Universal Music UK will reduce the environmental impact of its own operations, while supporting Britain’s energy independence and green economy.”
