Mary McCartney to direct Abbey Road Studios documentary If These Walls Could Sing

“If These Walls Could Sing” will explore the history of the legendary recording studio on Abbey Road’s 90th anniversary in November.

Sir Paul McCartney’s daughter Mary McCartney is set to officially direct a feature-length documentary about Abbey Road Studios – titled If these walls could sing.

Universal Music Group’s recently launched production house, Mercury Studios, has announced a documentary about the legendary location, with John Battsek taking the production helm.

If These Walls Could Sing will be directed by filmmaker and photographer Mary McCartney – Paul and Linda’s daughter – and will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the Beatles’ recording location.

Mary McCartney’s own memories of sharing the studio with her father, Paul McCartney, shaped the documentary.

“Some of my earliest memories as a young child come from my time at Abbey Road,” she said in a statement. “I have long wanted to tell the story of this historic place, and I couldn’t collaborate with a better team than John and Mercury Studios to make that creative ambition a reality.”

Isabel Garvey, Managing Director of Abbey Road Studios, added: “’If these walls could sing.’ I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard this said at Abbey Road Studios over the years. I can’t wait for some of these stories to finally come to life in what will become a timeless documentary.
