A flat in London opposite Abbey Road Studios

List of the day

Location: London, United Kingdom
Price: £1.9 million (US$2.5 million)

This somewhat ordinary three-bedroom apartment has a lot of great external factors in its favor. It is in a beautiful converted old church and is directly opposite the iconic Abbey Road Studios. Moreover, it is in an elegant and central part of London.

“It is very rare for a church conversion to retain its original features with a church still active inside,” listing agent Thomas Middleditch said.

“Its other key feature is its location on Abbey Road,” he said. The studio is only 20, 30 steps from the property itself.

“They kept the church facade, but this property has a completely modern finish,” he added.

It’s in the Tony St. John’s Wood neighborhood, where Sir Paul McCartney still has a home. The Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover features the band crossing the road.

“It’s a very quintessentially British area,” Mr Middeditch said.

Abbey Road Baptist Church was built in 1863 and conversion to flats dates back to 2012-2013, he said. As part of the conversion, the church was also extensively restored, rebuilt and refurbished to restore it to its former glory.

The historic church is English Heritage Grade II listed, which means permission would be required to make any changes to the property.

This apartment, which has an open floor plan and high ceilings, is on the fourth and fifth floors of a five-story building. A mezzanine separates the kitchen/dining room and the living room.

“It’s very original in design,” because of the way the builders had to work around and preserve the existing church structure, Mr Middleditch said.

“It’s a very bright property, with windows everywhere,” he said. The rooms are “very bright and open, with wooden floors”.

Furniture is included, “but it’s completely negotiable, if the buyer wants it removed,” he said.

“You have several renowned London landmarks within walking distance of the property,” Mr Middleditch said.
