Carousel Music & Movement CIC has received nearly £ 1,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund to support its Earth Project for Adults with Learning Needs.

However, if there is enough interest, Carousel will also present its ‘health and wellness sessions’, open to all members of the public, in Leyland and Southport as well.

In Ormskirk, Carousel is already running ‘health and wellness sessions’ for everyone, as well as an established learning needs group, which costs £ 10 for 2 hours.

One of the directors of the company, Ruth Coyle, said: “The goal of Carousel is to improve and brighten life through music. It’s for health and well-being, because music is good for the soul, and music is a leveler, it crosses all borders and anyone can access it. We want people to have fun and have fun with music! We also aim to help people learn a bit more about music. In a very fun and practical way, we also teach music theory – notes of rhythm, melody, harmony and dynamics!

“In addition to using musical instruments and percussion, we sing and create dance routines, use chair exercises and much more! So in general, whatever you can adapt to music, we do! “

Sessions in Leyland and Southport are currently geared towards adults with learning needs and their caregivers, although more general sessions are also on the horizon.

She added, “Our sessions provide so many opportunities for socialization, teamwork, fun and motivation. Many people told us that it improved their coordination and their ability to listen and work as a team. So many people can’t wait to come every week and they go away dancing and singing, it’s just wonderful to see! “

Carousel Music & Movement was founded in April 2021 by Ruth and Caroline Darbyshire, the other director of the company, and currently runs sessions with charities including Age UK Lancashire.

Ruth and Caroline also lead the sessions, which are tailored for specific groups as they believe in empowerment and “let each group make it their own.”
