Paul McCartney returns to Abbey Road Studios to play new songs for fans and walk the famous pedestrian crossing

Paul McCartney has heightened anticipation for the September 7 release of his upcoming Egypt Station album on Monday July 23 by performing what was billed as a “secret show” at Abbey Road Studios and premiering four new songs from the album.

The set list for the Abbey Road Studios show, which took place in Studio 2 where the Beatles did much of their recording and which a McCartney spokesperson confirmed was recorded for Spotify for broadcast later, included four new songs: “Fuh (cq) Toi”, “Who Cares”, “Confidante” and “Come On To Me”. McCartney performed “Come On To Me” for the first time on June 9 at the concert Liverpool pub surprise while recording “Carpool Karaoke” with James Corden. He has since released this song along with “I Don’t Know” before the album. The video for “Carpool Karaoke” has amassed over 28 million views on YouTube since its publication on June 21.

Other new songs from Egypt station which were performed are “Who Cares”, “Confidante” and “Come On to Me”. McCartney performed for the first time”To come to me“June 9th at the Liverpool pub surprise gig while recording Carpool Karaoke with James Corden. He has since released this song with”I do not knowbefore the album. The Carpool Karaoke video has amassed over 28 million views on YouTube since it was posted on June 21.

McCartney walked to the studio and then delighted fans by crossing the same Abbey Road zebra crossing that he and his Beatles friends did on August 8, 1969 for their famous album cover. Videos showed fans cheering as McCartney strolled down the street. Pictures also showed Stella McCartney, the daughter of Paul’s fashion designer, in attendance.

McCartney announced last week that he would be doing a Facebook live Q&A on Wednesday as he spoke to students at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and also answered questions from fans via social media. The event will take place at 2:00 p.m. BST / 9:00 a.m. ET. McCartney co-founded the school with Mark Featherstone-Witty in 1995-96. As a young man, McCartney was a student when the school was known as Liverpool Institute High School For Boys. George Harrison also attended the school.

He recently announced a new tour called Freshen Up with dates in Canada, UK, Poland and Austria. He will be among the headliners at the 17th Annual Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, Texas from October 5-7 and October 12-14.
