Beatles fanatics with a soft spot for Abbey Road will have a field day with Google’s new interactive studio tour. Sacred space – which has hosted the Fab Four, Stevie Wonder and Radiohead, among others – has partnered with Google to bring the studio to life on the web.

Thanks to its Street View technology, Google Inside Abbey Road allows fans to look inside Studio One, where several famous film scores were recorded; Studio Two, where the Beatles impetuously recorded the majority of please make me happy in a breathtaking 585 minutes; and Studio Three, home to Abbey Road’s famous collection of microphones.

Narrated by Giles Martin, the son of Beatles producer George Martin, the tour of each room is packed with timelines, photographs, YouTube clips and time-lapse videos. (Who knew watching an orchestra set up could be so captivating?)

Engineer Mirek Stiles drops by Studio Two to break down the sound technology, noting how it was built and where the Beatles recorded. Then, in Studio Three, BBC Music radio host Lauren Laverne guides listeners through some of Abbey Road’s lesser-known rooms, including a mastering suite and the aptly named Mirror Room. In short, it’s a music fan’s dream.
