Cory Wong announces live studio album “The Paisley Park Session” and shares “Assassin” [Watch]

Well, it’s been a little over a month since Cory wongis the last album so it’s time for another one. The Grammy-winning multi-hyphen announced his latest studio effort on Friday, The Paisley Park session. The new album was recorded live at Princethe famous home studio in Chanhassen, MN.

Along with Friday’s announcement, Wong shared a high-energy rendition of Intrepid Flyers‘”Assassin”. The track, along with the rest of the album, was also visually captured and will be presented as a full video experience on Thursday, October 28 before the album’s release the following day. The “Assassin” video pits Wong in the studio with powerful lineup from Sonny T (low), Kevin Gastonguay (organ / keyboard), Petar Janjic (battery), and Negah santos (percussion) and the six-piece brass section known as the Horn heads. The track is frenetic but skillfully calculated, as the raucous energy of uptempo funk is encountered with absolute precision.

Wong said of the new album,

Paisley Park is such a legendary place to record music. It was Prince’s studio and even his home for years. Studio A was his sanctuary. Coming back to Paisley Park and recording my songs was an absolute joy. The band was HOT that day and it shows in the recording. I grew up just across town from Paisley Park and this was my first time recording at Studio A. It was fun watching and listening to The Hornheads and Sonny T telling stories about countless hours and nights spent in the studio, and hearing about the music they made there which is both become hit songs ET has never been released before. The creative energy in the studio is palpable, and you hear / see it in this session.
